We Remember

I wrote this song following a death in the family. Although I often play around with words and meanings, every word here is sincere.
The wind began to rise, and blow the ashes all around
And though we looked, there was no sign of a phoenix to be found
Slowly we accepted that we'd see your face no more
Gradually, the shock subsided and the tears began to pour
Memories are all we have of the years we held you dear
Memories that we embrace, as a way to hold you near
We remember:
The way you held your head
The carefree life you led
You calling out to me
Your joy was plain to see
The way you made us feel
But we didn't know how to heal you
The wind began to rise, and blow the ashes all around
And though we looked, there was no sign of a phoenix to be found
