When Gustav left the conservatoire
He considered himself a rising star
He worked so hard, had first position
In Sonata Form and Composition
But by the time that he was 23
And completed his 2nd Symphony
He found that Rock 'n' Roll was in
And the kids didn't want no violins
So he cleared away all the music stands
And tried to groove like a metal band
But even though he got the feel
He still couldn't make those strings of steel
So the Main Man said "Let's kill the bass
And put something mellow in its place
Tell those horns they've got to swing
And lay that horsehair on those strings"
Maestros wearing denim and tees
Beat in the new-found way, hay
Symphony sounds in rock'n'roll keys
Classical Rock's Today!
Well, he took the world from A to Z
With his little band of 73
They sold their records by the ton
And Gustav never stopped having fun
So he orchestrated rock'n'roll
And the music sang with a certain soul
And though he'd never been in an attic
Everything he wrote became a Classic
Maestros wearing denim and tees
Beat in the new-found way, hay
Symphony sounds in rock'n'roll keys
Classical Rock's Today!
