Richard Says: I wrote the song "Miracles" during a period when all the news seemed to be depressing. "I Believe" was written just afterwards, and is in another mood entirely.
Beth Says: After making the video for "What're We Gonna Tell The Children" I needed a reminder that we can never throw away our childhood dreams. We all need a teddybear to hold on to.

When you lay me down to sleep
Do not crumble, do not weep
When you lay me down to die
For innocence, do not cry

Remember when you were young and free
And all the things that you wanted to be?
You had a notion to sail the ocean
Or fly up high, like a bird in the sky

Remember when there were people who cared
Who would comfort you, when you got scared?
Who would hold your hand, try to understand
How it felt to be you, when you hadn't a clue?

When you lay me down to sleep
Do not crumble, do not weep
When you lay me down to die
For innocence, do not cry

Remember when you still believed
That the world would better for the dreams that you weaved
Then you got the sense that your innocence
Was a weakening tool, only kept by a fool

So you laid it down, with a cynical frown
And adopted the pose of a once-bitten, hard-nose
And made the blunder when you questioned the wonder
Of the rising sun when the night is done

I believe (we can find a way)
I believe (that there is a way)
Oh I believe (can you say it?)
I believe (do you mean it if you do?)
